Today was my first book signing. I prepared myself for sitting at a table, being bored out of my mind, and looking like the last girl left waiting for a dance at the prom. At best, I figured I was at a bookstore, so I could read my way through the three hours. At worst, well, there is no worst if you’re in a bookstore and you love to read.
Right as I finished setting up, someone walked up to my table. After buying a book, we chatted for a while, and she went on her way. Before she left, the next couple showed up, and it really kicked off from there. Some of the wonderful people I knew, and I felt so grateful that they came out of support me. Others read an article in the newspaper about my book launch a couple days ago, and I was really thankful for that, as well.
My favorite was when a young girl came in with her mother, looked around and asked where the author was and I got to say I was the author. It was a pretty cool moment, even though she looked surprised, lol. I guess I don’t blame her. Most authors probably don’t attend their own book signings in a green tye dye shirt, brown pants, and moccasins. Hey, it was comfortable.
The coolest part of it was getting to talk to people. The book store I was at had these awesome comfy chairs so we sat there and chatted for awhile about books, life, and everything else. I ended the evening with a wonderful chat with a couple of my writing club friends. They have a book on poetry with photography coming out soon and I can’t wait to read it!
Over all, I was in awe that so many people showed up and supported me. It was a truly humbling experience and I can’t wait to do it again!
