Burning Bright was set in a small Arizona town near Nogales where a fictional exotic animal sanctuary was built. Loosely based on the eccentric village of Patagonia, Red Rock is a truly unique place to live, work, and dream. With gorgeous red mountains, expansive vistas, and immeasurable night skies, both my imaginary town and its real-world counterpart are truly one-in-a-million.
The exotic animal sanctuary was also loosely based on one I’d visited on a vacation: Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in the adorable little town of Eureka, Arkansas. This amazing facility is home to many formerly abused and neglected exotic animals- from lions to tigers to bears. All are cared for in a wonderful environment where they can thrive away from abuse and neglect.
